Book Review: Three Men In A Boat -Jerome K. Jerome

Book Title: Three Men In A Boat

Author: Jerome K. Jerome

Synopsis:

"The four of us were sitting in my room-George, William Samuel Harris, Montmorency and I, J."

These starting lines of the popular humour book Three Men In A Boat by author Jerome K. Jerome are the lines responsible for taking us into the world of unstoppable and stomach-aching laughs!

The story has three characters,- J. who is based on the author himself, George who is a banker, Montmorency, the dog and Harris, who is the craziest of them all! (Though they all are quite crazy)

The three men were sitting in J.'s room, they were talking about how sick they were, J. was sure that his liver was not working properly because he read a patent liver-pill circular and claimed that all the symptoms matched his current situation, though he also mentioned that he has never read one of these and not come up with the conclusion that he has all of the symptoms. After hearing this, the other two also started stating their experiences with laziness and dizziness.

The men decide to do a boat trip across the River Thames, thinking that a change of scene will help them with their 'health issues'. After the men pack up their things, that too with great issues George is given the responsibility to wake everyone up at 6:00 AM so they can leave on time. When George falls asleep, J. and Harris have the brilliant idea to lift up to the bathtub and put it right next to where George is sleeping, so he can wake up-take a bath and wake everyone up more quickly.

J. wakes up a 9:00 AM, he wakes up Harris and starts yelling at him for not waking him up, to which Harris responds that J. should have woken him up first so he could have waen up J after being woken up, they then realise that George overslept and then beat him up!

Will the men be able to do the boat trip? If they are, what will they encounter in this voyage?

Read the book to find out

Review: The story is set in the 19th century, men of that time were known to be gentlemen and Nobel, but here they are put as fools who are very funny to laugh at, which makes the book very interesting.

The book has J. narrating everything, and sometimes random incidents are brought up by the characters which are related to the absurd situations that the characters are in.

In conclusion, this is a great book for anyone who is bored, and will make you laugh so much that your stomach will hurt!
